Fence Installation in Beaverton, OR
Fence installation in Beaverton, OR, built to the city's own height rules: 3 feet in a front yard on most streets, 6 feet out front on collector and arterial streets, and up to 8 feet along the sides and back. We build Grade 1 cedar, vinyl, chain-link and Colorbond steel fences from Five Oaks to South Cooper Mountain.
- Oregon-licensed (OR CCB 198186)
- Grade 1 cedar, stainless fasteners, steel-post option
- 3- or 5-year written workmanship warranty
How Tall Can a Fence Be in Beaverton?
Under Beaverton Development Code section 60.50.20, a fence can be 3 feet tall in a required front yard on a local street, 6 feet in a required front yard along a designated collector or arterial street, and 8 feet in every other yard. Fences can sit right on the lot line, as long as they meet the sight-clearance rules in the city's Engineering Design Manual. Oregon does not require a building permit for a wood, wire-mesh or chain-link fence under 7 feet. Gorilla Works checks your street's classification before we quote.
Fence Types We Install in Beaverton
Cedar privacy fence
Our standard build is Grade 1 cedar boards on pressure-treated posts with stainless fasteners and a 3-year workmanship warranty. The top build moves up to Clear cedar, the fewest-knot grade, on steel posts, with a 5-year workmanship warranty. Wood fencing.
Vinyl fence
No staining and nothing to rot. A good fit for a Beaverton backyard where you want privacy without a weekend of maintenance every few summers. Vinyl fencing.
Chain-link
The practical choice for a dog run, a side yard or a long back line. On a front yard along a local street, a 3-foot chain-link run is one of the few options that keeps the sight line open. Chain link.
Colorbond steel and hog wire
Colorbond steel panels in colors like Woodland Grey, Jasper and Monument never need stain and carry a 10-year materials warranty. Hog wire gives an open, modern look over a garden. Steel fencing.
What Section 60.50.20 Actually Allows
| Where on the lot | Maximum height |
|---|---|
| Required front yard, local street | 3 feet |
| Required front yard, designated collector or arterial street | 6 feet |
| Front yard with an above-ground stormwater facility | 4 feet |
| All other yards (side and rear) | 8 feet |
Two details trip people up. First, the 6-foot front-yard allowance depends on how the city classifies your street, not how busy it feels, so we look your address up before we promise a height. Second, a fence taller than 7 feet in a side or back yard is allowed by the zoning code, but it is past the point where Oregon's building-permit exemption stops, so it needs a building permit.
City or county? Plenty of homes with a Beaverton address are not in the city at all. Aloha, Cedar Mill, Cedar Hills and Bethany are unincorporated Washington County, so their fence rules come from the county's Community Development Code and any permit goes through Washington County Building Services at 155 N First Ave in Hillsboro. We check which one applies before we draw the layout.
In every case: the fence stays off the public right-of-way, out of easements you do not control, and on your side of the line. Call 811 before any post hole is dug. More on lines and neighbors: who owns the fence and fence property line rules.
Wet Winter Soil Is the Real Enemy of a Fence Post
Much of the Tualatin Valley floor is Aloha silt loam, which the USDA describes as somewhat poorly drained, with water perched one to two feet below the surface through the wet months. Add the 39.16 inches of rain a year that NOAA's 1991-2020 normals record at its Tualatin Hills Nature Park station, and a wood post set straight into the dirt spends half the year standing in water. That is where fences rot and lean.
So we set posts deep with gravel at the base for drainage and concrete crowned to shed water away from the wood, and we offer PostMaster steel posts: pre-galvanized G90 steel, 0.100 inch thick, with a Lifetime Limited Warranty from the maker, Master Halco. Steel does not rot at the ground line, and we cover each post in cedar so the fence still looks like all wood. Beaverton also logs about 42 nights a year at or below freezing at NOAA's Beaverton 2 SSW station, another reason to keep water out of the post hole.
Homes near the creeks, ponds and wetlands of the 222-acre Tualatin Hills Nature Park sit on some of the wettest ground in town. If your yard stays soggy into spring, tell us; it changes how we set the posts.

What Moves the Price of a Beaverton Fence
- Length of the run, since fences are priced by the foot.
- Material: chain-link, Grade 1 or Clear cedar, vinyl or Colorbond steel.
- Height: a 6-foot privacy fence costs more than a 3-foot front run.
- Posts: pressure-treated wood or PostMaster steel.
- Old fence removal and how much grade change the line has.
