Here is why that matters. Vancouver and Clark County set their own fence permit and height rules, and they are not the same as Portland’s. An Oregon-only contractor either cannot pull your permit or does not know the code they are building to. We do, so your fence goes up right the first time instead of getting flagged.

Vancouver Fences Follow Washington Rules, Not Oregon’s
Fence height limits and permit rules in Vancouver and Clark County are set by Washington and the local jurisdiction, and they differ from Portland’s. Front-yard and back-yard height limits are not the same, and a taller fence, a corner lot, or a fence near a right-of-way can each change what is allowed.
Because we are licensed in Washington, we know which rules apply to your address and we confirm them before we build, not after. That is the difference between a fence that passes and one that gets flagged and has to move. We handle the details that matter in our wet climate too: posts set deep below the frost line, a kickboard so the panels never sit in wet ground, and stainless fasteners that will not streak the cedar.

Two traps catch people. Camas moved its permit trigger from over 6 feet to over 7 feet at the end of 2025, and a lot of pages still quote the old number, but a Camas fence over 6 feet still has to meet setbacks, so it cannot sit on the property line. And in unincorporated Clark County, a fence on top of a retaining wall is measured down to the ground at the bottom of the wall, not from the top of it.
